About Us

The Gee Family Association Education Fund of Greater Houston (GFAEF) was established by the Gee Family Association in 1998 to "​ensure the education of our youth beyond the high school level and others who are continuing their education dedicated toward community service." 

The Gee Family Association Education Fund of Greater Houston is an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, recognized by the IRS in 1998. Started by cousin George Gee, the GFAEF consists of a Board of Directors of both Gee family members and non-Gees from the community who share the vision of supporting education for Greater Houston's Asian community. A separate Selection Committee consisting of non-Gees reviews scholarship applications and selects the scholarship recipients. Community involvement is one of the primary strengths of award recipients. 

Since 1998, GFAEF has awarded over $230,000 with over 300 Scholarships. We hope the scholarships allow the individuals to pursue their educational goals and to utilize their education for the benefit of their local communities. 

Scholarships are supported by tax-deductible donations given mostly by individuals.

The Gee Family Association (GFA) is an organization consisting of old and new generations of Gees and their extended families. The GFA has chapters in several major U.S. cities. Typically, the Houston organization gathers at two major events, a Chinese New Year Banquet and a fall family gathering, as well as varying activities in between. The banquet has been an annual gathering since the 1950s and is a festive and entertaining venue where the GFAEF awards scholarships. Through these gatherings, we share news about family members, promote family relations among extended family and friends and uphold cultural traditions carried on through the generations. 

In 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we hosted our first virtual Chinese New Year and Scholarship event. While we were pleased to have Gee family and special guests near and far from Houston to join in, we were delighted to resume our signature event in-person in 2022.
