2025 APPLICATION DEADLINE AND DETAILS

APPLICATION DEADLINE AND DETAILS

Read carefully: In order to be considered for scholarships awarded in 2025, the completed application forms must be submitted via this Google Form.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Submit your application by Friday January 17, 2025, 11:59 pm Central Time.
For questions, please contact GFAEFappl@gmail.com. The GFAEF will aim to respond to your email within 1-3 days, so please keep that in mind as the deadline nears. 

NOTIFICATION OF SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: Recipients will be notified by early February. Recipients and one guest will be invited to attend the Gee Family Association Chinese New Year and Scholarship Dinner scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2025. Additional dinner admission will be available for purchase. Details will be distributed to scholarship recipients.

REPORTING REQUIREMENT: Twelve months after receiving the scholarship award, recipients will submit a written report to the Board of Directors on how funds were used and how their community benefited or will benefit. If the scholarship award is granted for continuing professional education or community leadership program, the recipient will also show evidence of completion of the program. Report and supporting documentation should be emailed to GFAEF1998@gmail.com.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To apply for the GFAEF Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have ancestral Chinese lineage;
  • Be a permanent resident of the Greater Houston Area (if you're of Gee lineage and have an ancestral Houston connection, you are not required to be a permanent resident of the Greater Houston Area);
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
  • Be either a student or professional, who is: 1) a graduating high school senior; 2) pursuing education beyond the high school level; or 3) working and wish to pursue higher education and/or professional development;
  • Have a commitment to providing leadership and service in the community; and
  • Have not received a GFAEF scholarship in the prior academic year and are limited to being awarded two (2) GFAEF scholarships in their lifetime.

 The Scholarship Committee and Reviewers will consider the following:

  • Purpose and use of the scholarship funds
  • Individual’s scholarship, leadership, civic, and community involvement
  • Evidence of acceptance in an institution of higher learning, professional development, or valid program
  • How the applicant and their community might benefit
  • Unique and extraordinary accomplishments
  • Completion and submission of required application materials
  • Indication of financial need


 The Scholarship Committee shall determine the relative weight given to each criterion. Follow-up by telephone or e-mail may occur for clarification. 


 SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: 

The Board of Directors of the Gee Family Association Education Fund of Greater Houston will appoint the scholarship committee annually. These individuals are chosen from non-Gee family board members and interested community members.
